What is a "palimpsest"? It is a manuscript from which the original text has been removed in order to write a new one—often without entirely erasing the traces of the previous writing. In this sense, Palimpseste by Bernard Boujol is built in layers—both formally and emotionally. The dominant palette of warm reds, ochres, golds, and deep browns evokes an autumnal landscape—not realistic, but filtered through memory and painterly sensitivity.

In contrast to other works from the Vagabondages series, where drama and intensity prevail, Palimpseste introduces a sense of quiet and reflection. The painterly gesture here is more focused, the color denser and more saturated. The layered paint echoes the structure of a palimpsest—a space where new images overwrite earlier traces, without fully erasing them.

Palimpseste is a contemplative record—subtle and introspective, built through the intensity of color and the texture of the painted surface.
