“Breath” - Tania Kandracienka

In Breath, Tania Kandracienka presents a child immersed entirely within himself , suspended between the external world and an inner universe.
The minimalism of the composition reinforces the perception of the scene.

The boy is depicted frontally, with his head slightly raised, eyes closed and lips parted - as if on the threshold of ecstasy, concentration and unease. His curled posture carries both tension and fragility - a gesture of protection and openness at once.

This is a rare moment in Tania’s work in which the face of the figure is “offered” to the viewer. Yet nothing is stated directly. Emotion here exists through light, colour and silence. Light, colour and painterly gesture do not describe, they intensify the experience, giving the painting depth and emotional intensity.

This is not a scene of everyday childhood. It is an image of an intense, authentic experience, a metaphor for our inner struggles with ourselves and the world: tension, fear, doubt and desire.

To grasp both the silence and the inner cry, it is worth recalling the context of Tania Kandracienka’s painting.
This emotional memory is present in the gesture, the colour and the composition of the work.

“Breath” is not a portrait of a child, but a state, an emblem of human sensitivity and the need for inner release.
